What Is A Bursary?
A bursary is a financial assistance that companies make available to students who are intending to pursue or undertake tertiary education studies after completing their matric. Because companies operating in South Africa fall under various and broad sectors of the economy, bursaries are also divided according to different fields of study.
These fields of study are termed as categories in this website. This is done in order to make it easy for you to find the type of a bursary that you are looking for.
Here are some of categories that our bursaries are sub-divided according to:
Who Qualifies To Apply?
Any person can apply for a bursary in South Africa depending on which course he or she wants to take. Each and every bursary has its own application requirement or prerequisites. These can vary in terms of the age, course, university or even location. If you meet the requirements for a particular bursary which draws your interest, then you are free to submit your application.
When Should I Apply?
Because bursaries are administered by companies that have a lot to do during the year to meet their operational requirements, they set a limited window period when they will be dealing with bursary application. It is always very important that your application for financial assistance is submitted during this period.
Late bursary applications are not considered as there will be no personnel allocated to deal with such. We encourage students to always read about the closing date for each bursary before they apply.
Should I Submit Original Documents?
When you apply for bursaries, there may be some documents that the company need from you. This is to help them make a well informed decision when they select their bursars. Never submit your original documents unless if it is strictly specified. We always advise that students submit certified copies. This can be done at a police station or even at your nearest post office.
Application Closing Date
As we have already said above, please make sure that you prepare all your application form on time and you gather all required documentation before time to avoid missing the deadline to apply.
