Sugar Industry Trust Fund for Education (SITFE) Bursary

SITFE makes available funding for bursaries to students residing from KwaZulu-Natal & Mpumalanga, South Africa’s sugarcane growing provinces. Bursaries will be awarded to students within the following fields of study:

Agriculture
Engineering
Science
Students must be children of sugarcane growers and farm workers are also eligible to apply – they may apply or be enrolled to study within any field of study.

Shortlisted candidates will be contacted at the beginning of December 2018 and invited to attend an interview in mid December. If you do not get any feedback by 31 January 2019 at the latest, please regard your application as unsuccessful.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Applicants need to meet the following minimum entry requirements before applying (please note that if you fail to meet all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

South African citizen
Completed Matric OR currently in Matric
From one of the sugarcane growing provinces (Mpumalanga or KwaZulu-Natal)
Applied or registered to study within one of the following fields: Agriculture/ Engineering/ Science OR the child of a sugarcane farm worker that has applied or registered to study within any field
University students: studying or registered to study at one of the following institutes:
University of Johannesburg
University of Pretoria
Rhodes University
University of Fort Hare
University of Witwatersrand
University of Cape Town
University of the Western Cape
University Stellenbosch
University of KwaZulu-Natal
University of Mpumalanga
University of Zululand
Sol Plaatje University
University of Technology students: studying or registered to study at one of the following institutes:
Tshwane University of Technology
Durban University of Technology
Mangosuthu University of Technology
Agricultural students: studying or registered to study at one of the following institutes:
Cedara College of Agriculture
Owen Sithole College of Agriculture
Preference will be given to disadvantaged students, as well as first year students from sugarcane growing areas

Please note: students must also apply for NSFAS funding when applying for the SITFE Bursary. Applications for NSFAS must be done online at www.nsfas.org.za

Submit clear copies of the following supporting documentation along with your completed application form (the submission of these documents is compulsory – if any items are missing, your application be disregarded):

ID document (certified copy)
Grade 11 final results (certified copy)
Matric mid-year results (certified copy)
Matric trial/ prelim results, if available (certified copy)
Matric final results, if available (certified copy)
Tertiary full academic record, if at tertiary level (certified copy)
Proof of your connection to the sugar industry
Proof of family income (latest payslips if employed/ affidavit if unemployed/ pension receipts if retired/ death certificate if deceased) (certified copies)
Proof of your application/ registration at one of the aforementioned Universities/ Universities of Technology/ Colleges of Agriculture
Proof of NSFAS application
